Lent 2026 at St. John's
Lent is a sacred period of forty days (minus Sundays) reflection on sin- both those done by us and those done against us- and how Christ has overcome sin. Lent is marked by restraint (fasting), repentance, and renewal by Christ, as he prepares us to “keep the Easter festival” of resurrection.
Join us at St. John’s Lutheran Church for the Lenten journey, as we walk with Christ toward the cross and look ahead to the hope of the resurrection. Here you can find our schedule of worship services, midweek gatherings, and family resources to guide you through this holy season.

Worship Service Schedule
Every Sunday we follow the traditional Western Christian pattern of the Divine Service, or Mass. We use a variety of songs, dialogues, and prayers to rehearse the Story of Salvation, and “practice for Monday,” as it were. This year, we’re listening to the prophets and apostles define our individual and corporate identity.
On Wednesday evenings in Lent, we follow Behold Our Light, a modern retelling of the
traditional Vespers service. This year, we’re exploring the Book of Job.
Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the Christian season of Lent. We call it "Ash Wednesday" because it's the day Christians can receive an ashen cross on their foreheads, a twofold reminder that because of sin's effects we will suffer bodily death (and become dust), and that because of Christ's suffering, death, and resurrection from the dead, we too will return *from* the dust on the Last Day, to everlasting life in communion with Jesus and each other in the new creation.
