CELEBRATE THE NEW CHURCH YEAR

Advent & Christmas at St. John’s

Advent opens the Christian Year of Grace, a calendar shaped around the life of the Holy Trinity. Already in the Book of Acts, Christians gathered on Sundays to celebrate Christ’s resurrection. This gradually expanded into annual seasons and cycles of preparation and celebration for the key events in salvation history.

Join us for the Advent and Christmas cycle, as we prepare for and celebrate Christ entering our world to redeem us and save us. Find here our schedule of worship services and Advent family resources.

Worship Service Schedule

On Sundays in Advent and Christmas, we follow the traditional Western Christian pattern of the Divine Service, or Mass, set to familiar carols. This year, we’ll use the book of the prophecy of Isaiah to help us prepare for Christ’s coming.

On Wednesday Evenings in Advent, we follow Holden Evening Prayer, a modern retelling of the traditional Vespers service. This year, we’ll use different Christmas decorations to explore God’s kindness.

Pray with Us using this Advent Devotion

The best way to prepare for the coming of Jesus is to come to the Divine Service. In between those times, we prepare by reading his Holy Word and praying. This devotion will aid us in that endeavor, and explore more of Isaiah’s themes preached on Sunday mornings.

Celebrate Advent & Christmas with Us!

We warmly invite you to be a part of our community worship, events, and traditions for this sacred season. Come share with us in the life and love of Jesus. We look forward to celebrating together!
